Net Neutrality: What You Need to Know
Let me tell you what net neutrality is. Today almost everyone in our country has access to the internet, and almost everyone knows how to go about it. Although there are many websites which have been blocked or people or location more like, do not have the access or permit to load.
This is where Net Neutrality comes in. It is basically the principle stating that the Internet service providers should enable access to all the content and application regardless the source and without blocking particular products or websites. This is counted as a way through which the internet has always worked.
Net Neutrality is the principle which guides the internet, preserving our right to communicate freely. Without Net Neutrality, cable and phone companies would be ones paying with the internet making it fast or slow.
An ISP could slow down its competitors’ content or block political opinions it disagreed with. ISPs could charge extra fees to the few content companies that could afford to pay for preferential treatment; relegating everyone else to a slower tier of service. This would destroy the open internet.
Without Net Neutrality, the Internet wouldn’t really be the internet. The internet is known for being an open platform for anything and everything. If there is no Net Neutrality, it would be closed and any of the big companies could block the websites or application they do not like. This would prove to be greatly disadvantageous to many people, shutting them out of the world called the internet.
This would basically be like taking the limbs of a human proving it to be disabled to move any further. The world, what it is today, people communicate, spread topics of awareness around the world. The world would not be what it is today without Net Neutrality.
There are many big phone and cable companies which are trying to attack Net Neutrality and rid the internet of it. Yes, the world already did win a war and get strong Net Neutrality but, ever since all the opponents have done everything to stop it, Chairman Pai, a former Verizon Lawyer is doing all it takes to put an end to the open internet.
Net Neutrality is an essential for business companies and for start-ups and they need the open internet to expand their business through websites and promote their products and get in touch with their customers.
The Trump administration is doing everything in its power to clamp down on dissent. If they succeed, we will lose Net Neutrality, resulting in chaos.
