US and Mexico’s Wall: An Issue of Worry to the Migrants
During his Election in 2016, Trump demanded the construction of a bigger and a more impenetrable border wall along the US border with Mexico. He also made all illegal immigration stop and making Mexico pay for this purposed wall.
“There will be the physical wall and then parts of the wall that you can actually see through because it will rely on sensors and other technology,” told Secretary John Kelly.
The border is 1,945-mile log which is 3,124 km. A part of this border measuring 1,100 km already has walls with barbed wire fences or metal fences separating the two countries. Along with this are the virtual walls, monitored by X-rays, cameras and thermal sensors and more than 20,000 border agents.
“A nation without borders is not a nation. Starting today, the US gets back control of its borders. This will help dismantle cartels, keeping illegal weapons and cash from flowing out of America and into Mexico.” Trump said
Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto said his country would not pay for the wall. “Mexico does not believe in walls. I have said it time and again: Mexico will not pay for any wall,” he stated.
Trump stated that this wall will be 1,600 km ie. 1,000 miles long estimating the cost to be $10-12 bn whereas homeland security stated it to be $21 bn.
Shelters have opened up in Tijuana a border town in Mexico ever since Trump’s campaign for immigrants who were made to leave the country. These shelters have been struggling with a large amount of migrants and deportees coming back into Mexico.
There are about 8,000 people or more residing in the border town of Mexico, which have been either deported of voluntarily left. This has downed the tourist sales of Mexico and decreased the sales in the US which were taken by Mexicans.
“By doing it that way we can do $10bn (£8bn) a year and easily pay for the wall, just through that mechanism alone,” said Sean Spencer, Trump’s Spokesman.
This is not only putting the humans at stake but also the wildlife, the animals which need to mate with the Mexican species of animals will be put at risk. They will not be able to fulfil their biological needs.
Then there is an impact to the landscape of a massive construction project which needs digging, and the appearance of a big concrete wall.
